Brian May reveals part of relationship with Antia Dobson made him 'physically ill'

Brian May has candidly shared that he was initially unsure about his relationship with Anita Dobson, mainly because of their differing tastes in music and entertainment. Speaking to OK magazine back in 1998, the Queen legend revealed: "I guess I'm surprised that it's lasted."

He explained the pair were very different indeed, reports  He said: "We have an incredible attraction to each other, a huge need for each other, which no one else can fulfill, but all the time life is telling us that it doesn't work, because we don't like the same things, we don't like to be in the same places! I didn't think that I could ever be with someone who didn't like Led Zeppelin!".

However, some aspects of the relationship reportedly made Brian "ill". He said: "The stuff she likes I got dragged into by my heels – you know, the whole world of musical theatre made me physically ill – and still occasionally does. But I've got used to it now because of her. I've learnt so much; she has enriched my life beyond measure."

Although they had been a couple for over 10 years at that point, it wasn't until two years later that they would marry. In May 2002, despite his previously stated aversion to theatre, Brian and fellow band member Roger Taylor launched 'We Will Rock You', a jukebox musical featuring Queen's hits, with a book by Ben Elton and backing from Robert De Niro.

At its inception, it was the priciest musical ever produced in London's West End, costing an eye-watering £6.5 million. The musical reached the impressive milestone of breaking even just 15 months after its premiere. Not only that, it continued to entertain audiences at the Dominion Theatre until 2014, and it holds the record as the longest-running show ever at that venue, with a remarkable lead of nine years.
