Trinity Arts & Leisure swimming pool to permanently close in July

Bedford College Services has confirmed that the swimming pool at Trinity Arts & Leisure will permanently close at the end of July 2025, citing unaffordable repair costs of over £2 million.

In a letter seen by the Bedford Independent, Amanda Riches, Group Director of Bedford College Services, said the “difficult decision” had been made after “in-depth consultations with suppliers and contractors” regarding necessary repairs to keep the pool safe and operational.

The pool, located on Bromham Road, will close on Thursday, 31 July 2025.

The College acknowledged the impact this will have on regular users, local swimming clubs and the wider Bedford community, especially in light of recent pool closures

Confirming the closure, Amanda Riches told the Bedford Independent, “We have taken the difficult decision to close the swimming pool at Trinity Arts & Leisure on a permanent basis from July.

“We understand that the loss of this facility will be significant to not only the regular users and swimming clubs but also the town of Bedford and local communities, following the closure of other local pools in the area.

“Unfortunately, the cost of the repairs required exceeds £2m, which means, with regret, it is not financially viable to keep the pool open. We are sincerely sorry we had to take this decision.”
